ZOOM

The slider bar on the left of the draw window is used to zoom in and out. Zooming in beyond a certain point causes parts of the drawing to become inaccessible even with the use of the vertical (right) slider and horizontal (bottom) slider. The locator allows us to view any part of the drawing by moving the draw window over any part of the drawing. To activate the locator, activate the menu for the draw window and select the show locator option. To use the locator, simply move the mouse to the locator and press the left mouse button. The cross hairs will follow the mouse. If you zoom in and out using the zoom slider bar, you will notice that the locator shows three rectangles, a white one within a blue one (which change size) and an outer most white one (which does not change size or move). The inner white one indicates the draw window, while the blue one indicates the area covered by the draw window using the horizontal and vertical sliders. The outer most white rectangle represents the entire drawing.

When switching between draw windows, the locator will (if active) track the draw window which currently has focus.

It is also possible to zoom into an area of the draw window by entering into zoom mode and then selecting the area to be magnified. Zoom mode can be entered in one of two ways. Using the center button of a three button mouse or through the draw window menu.

To enter zoom mode using the middle mouse button, double click and hold down the button. That is, press/release/press and hold the button down. You will notice that the mouse pointer changes to a magnifying glass to indicate that you are now in zoom mode. Moving the mouse around while zoom is active (the magnifying glass is showing) will cause a bounding rectangle to be dragged out. Pressing on the right mouse button will cause the selected area to be magnified and if possible centered on the draw window. Th cross hairs on the locator will react accordingly.

BEWARE: entering zoom mode using this method is very similar to entering group mode using the middle mouse button. Remember to ensure that the mouse pointer has changed to a magnifying glass and not a lasoo, otherwise you are in group mode.

Exiting group mode (if entered via the middle mouse button) is simply a case of releasing the middle mouse button.

Entering group mode via the draw window menu is done by activating the draw window menu and then selecting the zoom option.

While in zoom mode it is possible to actually shrink the drawing by selecting an area of the drawing that is bigger than that which is currently showing in the draw window. This is done by dragging the selection out past the edge of the draw window. While doing this, the drawing will scroll within the draw window until the limits of the drawing are reached.
